So, last night I received an email from a booking company in Syracuse who has seen and liked my Soundcloud page. They talked about the possibility of booking me for a show next month and in the future! I think this would be a great opportunity for me, because I have never played electronic music in front of a live audience before. I can’t express how excited I am! I’ll actually be playing live, starting next semester!
From this point on, in my blog, I will be focusing more on posting about the music I am working on, my finished products, my inspirations and more. I may sometimes post another form of art from me, or something from the past, but it will mainly be about my music.
I made a facebook page, Michael Ahearn Music, over a month ago to go along with my soundcloud page (http://www.soundcloud.com/mjahearn) which has helped me build my own fan base and it has so far contributed the most to the views on my songs. I do wish to expand my fan base in the near future to have more people be able to listen to my music. This personal project has been very great for me to go through and I’m excited to see where it’ll be in a few months, or even a few years, from now.
As I was going through the fall semester of my Junior year and working with 3D animation, I started experimenting with my own music on the side. I have always wanted to create my own electronic music, but I just never got around to it because I never gave myself the time to. I was finally able to do this now!
I went to my piano and improvised in a few keys to come up with a melody that would make you feel as if you were venturing on a journey, alone. I then went to my computer and wrote down the melodies I came up with, made instruments to play the notes and eventually created an Electronic House song, called Desolate Path. This song gave me the confidence to continue forward learning new ways to come up with better sounds and make more of my own music.
After making my cover of Daylight I began to think about what I could make as an original song. I wanted to take a more serious approach and make an emotional song.
I came up with the song Heart’s Loss, a song about the emotional suffering of someone leaving from your life, whether it be through death or something else.
Over the summer, before my junior year, I took my first Audio Production and Recording class. At the beginning I thought I would just take it to get a basic understanding about how everything works, but I quickly took the class very seriously.
I ended up spending a lot of my free time recording a cover of the song Daylight, by Matt & Kim, because the song made me feel very happy and I really loved the vocals that went along with it. After recording all of the instrumental pieces in my bedroom I headed to the recording studio to record the vocals. I then spent even more time to mix and master the song. It was intense, but I was set on having the song sound very nice and finishing it in timely manner.
I was very content with the finished product. Doing this made me understand the long process of creating music and making it sound good for the public. Even though it was a hard process, I wanted to continue in this field because it was something that I enjoyed and had fun doing.
